Move-In/Move-Out and Breaks
Below is information on policies regarding common requests for breaks, transitional housing, move-ins, and move-outs. If you have additional questions, please contact our office during business hours.
All calendar dates will be defined in accordance with the University Academic Calendars.
Students do not need to apply to stay for Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, or Spring Break. Law students are able to remain on campus through Winter Break.

Fall Early Arrival
Belongings may not be placed in the room early.
Any unauthorized occupancy will result in immediate removal from housing, a daily housing charge, a $100 fine charged to the student’s account, and may be referred to student conduct.
Individual Early Arrival Requests:-
Incoming first-year, transfer, or exchange students - Early arrival is not permitted, so you MUST plan accordingly for your established move-in dates.

Returning students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) who have a sibling who is an entering first-year student may email Jacob Lowman to request approval to arrive on the same first-year move-in day as their sibling. No other early-arrival requests are permitted for individuals, as returning students may return to campus starting the Thursday before classes begin.
Group Early Arrival Requests:Only student staff assisting with campus operations and approved fall Athletic teams will be able to arrive on the Monday before classes start.-
Individual requests to arrive earlier than the group will not be approved.

All group requests must be submitted to Jacob Lowman by no later than June 14, 2026, and must include the following in an Excel spreadsheet:
- Column 1: Student ID
- Column 2: Student Last Name
- Column 3: Student First Name
- Column 4: Date of Group Arrival/Check-in
- Column 5: Group/Position Name and/or Reason

All group requests will be reviewed, and approval will be sent to the advisor, coach, or staff member the week following July 4th.

Housing and meal plan arrangements for early arrival student groups must be made by the advisor, coach, or staff member in conjunction with the request for early housing.
Completing a request does not guarantee approval, and late requests will not be accepted; we must plan accordingly.
All students staying on campus are held to the terms and conditions of the housing contract and all policies as outlined in the student handbook.
Students approved for early arrival may be housed in the summer transitional building until their fall assignment is available.

Fall Move In
New/Entering Students:Check-in and move-in for all entering first-year, transfer, and international/exchange students participating in a transition program will be on Monday, August 17. All entering first-year and transfer students who are not participating in a transition program will check in and move in on the Wednesday before classes begin, August 19. Students participating in a transitional program should consult their program advisor or director for additional information. All entering students must sign up for a move-in time slot. This information will be sent later in the summer once assignments are completed. Early arrival/move-in is not permitted for first-year, transfer, or incoming international/exchange students; please plan travel accordingly.All students must present original physical copies of valid identification (e.g., driver’s license, passport) at check-in. Students are not permitted to check in or move in prior to their registered time slot. Students may check in only during their registered time slot to ensure we can keep students and families appropriately spaced throughout the day and maintain a smoother move-in process for all.
Check-in will be held on both days between 9 AM and 4 PM on the first floor of Tyler Haynes Commons (Building 270 on the campus map). All students must check in to gain access to their residence hall. At check-in, students will receive an activated SpiderCard that grants them access to their room via our wireless lock system. Students and families can also visit the Resource Fair in the Tyler Haynes Commons to access valuable information from campus resources and community partners.
Representatives from on-campus departments will be available to answer questions for students and families. Please note that parking is very limited near Tyler Haynes Commons, so we strongly recommend following the designated parking locations and walking to check in.
For unloading and parking: It is recommended that residents of Dennis, Marsh, Moore, and Robins Halls use parking lot C61. There is limited parking and an unloading area in lot R47 for residents of Dennis, Robins, and Wood Halls. Residents of Lora Robins Court should use parking lot W93 and W73 for unloading, with additional parking available in W87 and W88. Transfer students should park in the lot closest to their assigned residence. Please refer to the campus map for more information.
Returning Students:All returning students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) are permitted to move in and begin returning to campus starting at 9 AM on the Thursday before classes begin, August 20, by going directly to their room or apartment and swiping in with their SpiderCard.
Law Students:Law students may move in starting at 9 AM on Sunday, August 16, 2026. -
Fall Departure
Residential areas close at 12 PM on Friday, December 18th; all students must plan accordingly.
Students without a Spring Housing Assignment:All students who do not have a spring housing assignment must depart campus on the designated move-out date below and are not eligible for a Late Stay or Full Winter Break Request.- Undergraduate students must vacate 24 hours after their last exam. Residence halls close at 12 PM on Friday, December 18th.

Law students must vacate by 12 PM on Sunday, December 20th.
Students with Housing in both Fall and Spring:Students with the same housing assignment for both Fall and Spring terms are not required to move their belongings out of their assigned room.- Undergraduates must vacate 24 hours after the last exam. Residence halls close at 12 PM on Friday, December 18th. Students are not permitted to leave items in their rooms. All left-behind or unclaimed items will be donated or discarded during the closing inspection. Students who do not vacate by the listed date and are not approved to stay will be required to vacate campus immediately, assessed a $100/day fine for each day the room is occupied, and may be referred to student conduct. If necessary, items will be packed and stored utilizing a university vendor at the student’s expense.

Law Students are able to remain on campus through Winter Break.
Late Stay Requests:All requesting students must submit a Late Stay Request via their StarRez Portal by selecting "Winter Break Housing Request (Late Stay/Full Break/Early Arrival)" in the red bar. All requests must be submitted by the advertised deadline. Residents may request a late stay only until the Sunday following final exams and must vacate the building by 12 PM (noon) on that day.Completing a request does not guarantee approval, and late requests will not be accepted; we must plan accordingly. Approved students will be notified on Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break.
- International students and students living outside the US who have a fall and spring housing assignment and complete a request will automatically be permitted to stay.
- All Division 1 Student Athletes’ late stay requests must be submitted through the Athletics Department in order to be approved. Individual requests submitted will not be accepted.
All students remaining on campus are held to the terms and conditions of the housing contract and all policies as outlined in the student handbook.
Any student found in unauthorized occupancy will be immediately removed from housing, assessed a $100/day fine for each day the room is occupied, and may be referred to student conduct.

Winter Break
All students must plan accordingly, as the residential areas close at 12 PM on Friday, December 18th, and reopen at 10 AM on Saturday, January 9th.
All students who do not have a Spring Term housing assignment must depart campus on the designated move-out date and are not eligible for a Late Stay or a Full Winter Break Request.
Full Winter Break Requests:Students desiring to stay on campus for the entire Winter Break will need to complete a request to stay. Only students who have both a fall and spring housing assignment are eligible to submit a request to stay on campus for the Winter Break. Students can complete a request by logging into their StarRez Portal and selecting "Winter Break Housing Request (Late Stay/Full Break/Early Arrival)" in the red bar. All requests must be submitted by the advertised deadline. Late requests will not be accepted, as we must plan accordingly.Completing a request does not guarantee approval, and late requests will not be accepted; we must plan accordingly. Approved students will be notified on Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break.- International students and students living outside the US who have a fall and spring housing assignment and complete a request will automatically be permitted to stay.

Spring Early Arrival
All students must plan accordingly, as early arrival is not available. The residential areas will reopen at 10 AM on Saturday, January 9th.
Completing a request does not guarantee approval, and late requests will not be accepted; we must plan accordingly. Approved students will be notified on Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break.
- International students and students living outside the US who have a fall and spring housing assignment and complete a request will automatically be permitted to stay.
- All Division 1 Student Athletes’ early arrival requests must be submitted through the Athletics Department in order to be approved. Individual requests submitted will not be accepted.
All students remaining on campus are held to the terms and conditions of the housing contract and all policies as outlined in the student handbook.
Any student found in unauthorized occupancy will be immediately removed from housing, assessed a $100/day fine for each day the room is occupied, and may be referred to student conduct.
Individual Early Arrival Requests:Students moving onto campus without a Fall Term booking will not be able to request Spring Early Arrival, except for international travel.All requesting students must submit an Early Arrival Request via their StarRez Portal by selecting "Winter Break Request (Late Stay/Full Break/Early Arrival)" in the red bar. All requests must be submitted by the advertised deadline. Requests to arrive early can only be made for the Monday before the first day of class.
Group Early Arrival Requests:Only student staff assisting with campus operations and approved fall Athletic teams will be able to arrive on the Monday before classes start.- Individual requests to arrive earlier than the group will not be approved.

Spring Move In
Residential areas open at 10 AM on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Students may move in at that time unless otherwise approved for Early Arrival through Residence Life and Housing.
Returning Students:Students do not need to check in with RLH when returning to campus for the Spring semester. Access to your building and room will begin at the above time and date unless otherwise communicated. Students without access to their SpiderCard should contact OneCard Services for a replacement.New/Entering Undergraduate and Law Students:Students participating in a transitional or orientation program should consult their program advisor or director for detailed move-in information and to acquire their SpiderCard for access to their Room and Building. -
Spring Move Out
End of School Year:- Undergraduates: Must vacate 24 hours after the last exam. Residence halls close at 12 PM (noon) Sunday, May 3. Students are not permitted to leave items in their rooms. All left-behind or unclaimed items will be donated or discarded during the closing inspection. Students who do not vacate by the listed date and are not approved to stay will be required to vacate campus immediately and assessed a $100/day fine for each day the room is occupied. If necessary, items will be packed and stored utilizing a University vendor at the student’s expense.
- Graduating Seniors: Must vacate by 2:00 PM on Monday, May 11.

Spring Extension:In order to be eligible for an extension of your spring housing, you must be currently housed on campus for the spring term prior to your request, and be classified as one of the following:- Students with an early start to their Summer Housing (May 10)
- See more information in the Spring to Summer Transition information below, as well as our Summer Housing Policy.
- International Student (only eligible until 2 PM on Monday, May 11)
- Sibling of a Graduating Senior (only eligible until 2 PM on Monday, May 11)
- Member of an approved group or organization (e.g., athletic team, Graduation Committee). All group approvals will be confirmed with the Advisor and/or Department.
The Spring Extension Application will open on April 7. Housing is not guaranteed for requests after the application closes. Spring extensions, if approved, will only be permitted through the end of the student’s on-campus commitment (e.g., athletic team, Graduation Committee) or for a period of no longer than a week for a student with an approved late departure date due to international travel conflicts.

Spring to Summer Transition
Dates subject to change.
Please review the Summer Housing Policy for more information on the Transition Housing Period.
Spring to Summer Transitional Housing:Transitional Summer Housing is offered following Spring Departure and Summer Arrival. Students who need to stay on campus after the end of their Spring Term may select a start date of May 10 on their summer housing application through the StarRez Portal.Those students will be assigned to transitional housing temporarily while rooms are prepared for summer occupancy. The Summer Housing period begins on May 17. Summer Housing assignments will not be available to students until May 17.
Important Dates:
- Week of April 20-24: Transitional housing assignments will be sent to students who are approved for Spring Extension or arriving for a May 10 start to Summer Housing.
- May 11: Students who are approved for Spring Extension must move to a transitional summer assignment. All students must complete their move to transitional housing by 5:00 PM.
- May 17: Students in transitional housing and students arriving for summer housing move to permanent summer assignments. Students may go directly to their rooms upon arrival.

Summer to Fall Transition
Dates subject to change.
Summer housing ends July 25.
Summer Extended Stay is available for students who need to remain on campus following the summer housing period, concluding at the end of Summer Term II. Students are only eligible for Summer Extended Stay if they have both a Summer Term ending on July 25 and a Fall Housing assignment.
- Information will be sent to eligible students on or before June 26 in time to plan for end-of-summer transitional housing.
- Students approved for Extended Summer Housing will be charged $625 regardless of their length of stay. Meal options may be limited after the summer housing period ends.
Students must complete an Extended Stay application in their StarRez Portal.
All students remaining in housing will move to a transitional location by 5 PM on July 25.
Students in transitional housing will move to permanent fall assignments on August 7.
