Housing for Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores

All upperclass students may live in the residence halls.  Only Seniors and Juniors may live in Gateway Village and University Forest Apartments.

Room Selection Process - Not available to entering first year students or Law students.

In the spring semester, upperclass students have the option to participate in room selection to pick rooms for the following school year. The room selection process is in StarRez, the Housing automated system. Students participating in room selection must pay the housing deposit to Student Accounts and accept the housing contract by the deadline date, form roommate groups and select a room within StarRez at the day/time of their timeslot.  StarRez will reopen on February 25th.  Click this link to sign on to StarRez:  https://richmond.starrezhousing.com/StarRezPortalX/InitiateLogin/StarNet.Core.AuthProviders.Shibboleth

Important Information:

Housing Deposit Waiver

If you have been approved for a waiver of the housing deposit, you will receive an email from the Housing Office confirming your approval.  You will be able to participate in room selection.  You do not need to accept the waiver; however, if you are assigned to a room and leave housing, the amount of the deposit will be charged to your Student Account.

Housing Deposit Information

The 2020-21 housing application will be available in StarRez beginning February 25th.

If you want to participate in room selection and pick a room for the next school year, the housing deposit of $300 must be paid by March 2nd at 5:00 pm.

All pre-assigned students, including Resident Assistants (RA), RA roommate(s), Cultural Advisors, CA roommate(s) and students in Gender Flexible Housing must pay the housing deposit.

If you do not pay the housing deposit and want housing for next year, email Amy Collins to request to be assigned to a space at the end of room selection.

If a room is selected by your roommate group or individually by you, the housing deposit is not refundable.

Students who pay the deposit and do not select a room will receive a $300 credit on their student account for the fall semester.  When there is a past due balance on a student's account, any deposit made for a future term may be transferred to the student's account to cover the outstanding balance.

Housing Accommodation (Disability Services)

To request housing accommodations, complete the application on the Disability Services website by January 15th.  Once approved, Disability Services will contact the Office of Residence Life and Undergraduate Student Housing.

Studying Abroad

Spring 2020 study abroad students:  If you want on-campus housing for the following fall semester, you may participate in the on-line room selection from abroad.  To participate in room selection, pay the housing deposit by the deadline.   Room selection information is on the Housing website and in StarRez.

Fall 2020 study abroad students:   You will not be participating in room selection.  If you are confident you will study abroad, do not pay the housing deposit.  If there is some question if you will study abroad, pay the housing deposit so that you can participate in room selection if your study abroad plans change.  The housing deposit does not impact your request for spring housing.  Don't forget to follow these steps to request housing for when you return in the spring semester.

Roommate Selection

The roommate selection page will open in StarRez on February 25th and close on March 17th at 5:00 pm. The roommate selection page will reopen on March 26th and remain open until the room selection process ends on April 10th.

  • Your UR email must be active to receive the time slot email.
  • Students must be eligible to participate in room selection to join a group and be assigned a time slot.  Eligible means that you have paid the deposit or are approved for a waiver of the deposit and you have completed the required pages in StarRez.

  • Students who participate in the apartment selection and do not choose an apartment will be assigned a new time slot for selecting in the residence halls.

  • To select a double, triple or suite, you must form/join a roommate group in StarRez.  Detailed instructions are in StarRez.

Room/Roommate Switching

Switching with another student after room selection will not be approved; switching apartments or rooms will not be approved.  Students who want to request a move from the room chosen in room selection will move into the chosen room at the beginning of the fall semester and may apply for a room change after bed checks are completed.  Email Amy Collins to request a reassignment.
